6FPS is out: V7#8: Where to Draw the Line?
6FPS (Six Frames Per Second) is my monthly newsletter that is the best way to stay in touch with what I’m doing. In each issue of 6FPS you can hear about what I’m doing and learn about interesting things that I’ve found. You can expect a diverse set of items about birds and birding, photography, the environment and the green spaces in and around our cities, the internet and technology, and whatever else happens to catch my attention that I want to share.
There are also articles and special surprises written for and available only to subscribers. This newsletter is published once a month on the 2nd Monday of every month. It is free, with no strings attached. All you need to give me is your email address in the box below, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
Each issue will have one or two original pieces not published elsewhere, along with links to all of the other content I've created.
The goal of 6FPS is to share the kind of things we’d be talking about if we were able to sit down for coffee together every month.

In This Issue
When you get involved with things like Animal Rescue work, or with a Humane Society that takes in and manages pets people no longer can keep (or simply are tired of having), one of the big challenges faced is the question of where to draw the line. When is an animal better served with euthanasia? Unfortunately, one aspect of that decision is cost, and many times tough decisions need to be made by those in charge of care of these animals. In this issue I talk about this challenge because of a controversy involving a rescue organization I used to donate to back in Silicon Valley, my bird’s veterinarian of over 30 years, and some well meaning people who tried to redraw a line and (in my view) did so in a very unfortunate way.
I also go deeper into my caffeine-free life where I continued to struggle with just how bad decaffeinated teas are, and an experiment I ran seeing if I could shift my morning drinking to decaf coffee. Loyal readers, as you can probably imagine, that did not go well. That experiment ended, I went to plan C, and I’m now happily drinking an herbal peppermint tea that has zero caffeine in it (because it’s important to remember, decaffeinated means “reduced caffeine”, not “no caffeine”.
