Best of the Year: 2020

2020 started out really well — and then the pandemic hit.

The year started out good with a January trip to Southern California for birding and to visit friends and dad’s grave.. And then Covid. I added 27 images to the year’s collection from January until October, and those in only two outings, one in March and one in July. This fall, things started to click again, I upgraded to the Fuji X-S10 body, and I’ve been enjoying going out and trying to build up my catalog of the more common birds again instead of constantly chasing those epic shots.

These are my best (more likely favorite) of the year. I’m thrill to see some monochrome images make the cut — doing more of that is one of the things I’m trying to make sure I do and that will continue into 2021. I think this set holds up really well, and when I look at my total output, it’s down from 2019, but despite the huge gap in the middle, I still added more images than 2018, a year I seriously struggled with why I was taking photographs. Looking forward to an even stronger and less insane 2021.
